1234 calling the mbx_Xopen routine. In nmh, the code for mbx_Xopen
1235 was merged into mbx_open, but the interface for mbx_open
1236 doesn't support the clear variable, so that functionality was
1237 lost. The map_open interface still contains "int *clear" in
1238 the prototype, but never sets it.
1240 My patch eliminates "clear" from the map_open interface (I
1241 checked to make sure that map_write is the only client of
1242 map_open). Furthermore, my patch also sets the "clear"
1243 variable properly at the beginning of map_write by calling
1244 fstat(). This eliminates the bug in that the value of "clear"
1245 being used later in the routine was just stack garbage.
1247 Having a bad value of clear causes this next bug to be
1248 triggered: The fp file pointer was being opened with fdopen,
1249 but in two of the three switch cases it wasn't being closed.
1250 In certain cases, this was causing packf to run out of file
1251 descriptors if you attempted to pack a large folder.

1498 I've added a new file to the nmh tree called
1499 ChangeLog_MH-3_to_MH-6.6. It's cobbled together from the
1500 mh-6.8.4/papers/mh*/MHCHANGES files. I've re-ordered the entries
1501 to go from newest at the top to oldest at the bottom to match the
1502 ChangeLog convention. Unfortunately there are no change logs for
1503 versions of MH prior to 3 in the MH tar files available at
1504 <ftp://ftp.ics.uci.edu/pub/mh>. Also, it appears to me that there
1505 are MH-6.6 changes that aren't documented in the logs.
1507 I've also added ChangeLog_MH-6.7.0_to_MH-6.8.4.html. This is
1508 based on mh-6.8.4/papers/changes/mh-changes.ms. The nroff format
1509 and its "catman"-type output are a pain to deal with, but I was
1510 loath to throw away the formatting, so I converted the file to
1511 HTML. The only actual markup in the body are the "<B>" and "<U>"
1512 tags, and "<" and ">" instead of '<' and '>', so it's quite
1513 doable to view the file in plain ASCII mode as well. Note that
1514 some of the changes this file documents as having been made in
1515 MH-6.8.4 may not be present in nmh -- Richard started with 6.8.3
